There is so much choice when choosing your wedding cake nowadays that it may seem like a very daunting task, but coming up with the perfect wedding cake design is easier than you may think.
Here are La Belle cake company’s top tips to help you come up with the perfect wedding cake design.
1. How many people do you need to feed?
This is the starting point of any wedding cake design as this will dictate the number of tiers you will need to have. As a rough guide a three tier cake will cater for approx. 100 guests.
2. Where will the cake be located?
This can have a big influence on the cake design. Does your venue have high ceilings? If so – you might want to have a slightly larger cake so the cake doesn’t get lost in such a large room. If you had envisaged something a little larger but you only need three tiers for example than that Is not a problem at all. Most cake makers offer dummy tiers to add more height to the cake.

The colour of the brides dress will usually dictate the colour of the icing – either white or ivory, but that doesn’t mean you have to stick to these to shades. You can always opt for coloured icing instead. Whether your colour theme is vintage and pastels, or urban and bold icing comes in every colour spectrum.
4. What decoration should I have?
Take direction from the theme of your wedding – the wedding cake ties everything together. Take inspiration from your flowers or your invitations for example. You don’t want your cake to look like it belongs at a different wedding. At this stage Pinterest will be your best friend – take a look for cake designs that appeal to you. Don’t be afraid to be unique. It’s your day and it should be a reflection of you as a couple.

5. How much does this all cost?
Be realistic about your budget and do let your cake maker know if you have a budget. It’s always a good idea to find out their starting prices first. If you do want to save money you may have to be flexible with your design.
Bear in mind that there is always someone who will do it cheaper but as the saying goes “Cheap cake ain’t good and good cake ain’t cheap”.
