Choosing your wedding photographer can be overwhelming. With so many photographers, each with their own individual style, there are so many choices. This month we caught up with Hertfordshire based luxury wedding photographer Lee Rushby Photography. Lee specialises in capturing wow moments for his stylish couples, and his signature images are unlike any other I have seen. Lee can be found shooting weddings in some of the most exclusive wedding venues and has a talent for capturing the natural moments, as well as the incredible stylised shots. We caught up with Lee in his Hertfordshire home to find out more about the man behind the camera lense.

Tell me a little bit about you and what you do?

I’m a portrait and wedding photographer originally from Derbyshire but now settled in Hertfordshire via Iraq, Dominican Republic, USA, Afghanistan and Poland along the way.  I run a wedding photography business that offers both wedding photography and cinematography that is deeply rooted in photojournalism with influence from fine-art and fashion photography.  As well as our documentary style coverage of clients wedding days and events, we also create bespoke, custom artwork pieces for our clients to include in their albums or have printed to display in their homes.

What inspired you to go into the wedding industry?

As a high school photography student I had always had a fascination with photography and art and I love to tell stories with my photography.  What better stories to tell than stories of love and romance between amazing human beings so that they can have memories of their special moments to remember forever.

What makes your wedding business unique?

The wedding photography industry is so saturated right now and brides have lots of choice when it comes to suppliers. As a photographer you really need to stand out from the crowd and produce something special.  Throughout the year I regularly train with other photographers from other genres to ensure that I am learning and bringing new techniques and abilities to my business.  I know that our style of photography and artwork is not to everybody’s taste, but the clients that do hire us love the dramatic style that we bring to their images.

What is your most memorable wedding moment?

Oh wow – My most memorable moment would be when I split my trousers when bending over in a church about 2 minutes before the bride walked down the aisle.  I had no other option than to photograph the entire ceremony with a huge split in my trousers.  Valuable lesson learned – Always carry a spare pair of trousers in your kit bag for emergencies,

What is the best thing you have seen as part of another wedding? 

I’m a massive cheese lover, so finding out that you can get wedding cakes made from cheese just blew my mind!

What is your top wedding tip for any couples getting married?

We hear from couples all the time that the cost of getting married is expensive and that budgets get thrown out of the window after a few weeks of planning.  Our tip is to focus on what is important to you.  Find an amazing venue that you love and once you have booked it have a long hard think about what you want to spend your money on.

I’m a photographer, so I am a little biased, but your wedding photos (and video) will be the only actual tangible things you will have left after your wedding for you to remember your day, so if this is important to you, make sure you budget accordingly and find a photographer that you get along with (as you will spend up to 12 hours with them on your wedding day alone).  In demand photographers can be booked up for peak dates up to 2 years in advance, so as soon as you have your venue booked and date confirmed, get your photographer booked.

After this, you can see how much reasonable budget you have left for other things for your wedding.  Have a good long think about what you really need to have at your wedding?  I guarantee you that none of your guests will miss the items you leave out and they could end up saving you thousands.

What prices do your packages start from?

We have limited 2018 wedding packages available for all budgets starting from £1399 which all include an engagement session, coverage on the wedding day and an album of wedding images. If you are getting married in 2019 and beyond then do get in touch before our peak dates fill up.
