When booking your wedding suppliers top of couples’ lists are florists, cake designers, and a photographer! One often overlooked is a Toastmaster, “Just what does a Toastmaster do?” you may ask, so we asked John Ashmele FGPT (Fellow of the Guild of Professional Toastmasters) to join us today to discuss precisely what service you get!
My main aim as Master of Ceremonies at your wedding is to take the agreed plan and make it work on the day so that everything runs smoothly and on time, and all the announcements are made using the correct etiquette. After all those months of planning and preparation, this is when you want everything to be just right. I can offer expert planning advice on procedure, timing and etiquette, and agree on an outline plan of your event as you want it to be, because I’d love to be the difference that will make your guests talk about your wedding long after you’ve said: “I Do!”.
…and it’s not just weddings. As your Master of Ceremonies, I will ensure the smooth running of any family celebration, be it a wedding anniversary, renewal of wedding vows, significant birthday, b’nei mitzvah, etc. I could also provide some entertainment that can be played at tables after the meal, for example, a fun quiz tailored to suit your guests or my twist on the head & tails game. I am sometimes told that the celebration will be informal, so I can, if required, put aside the traditional toastmasters’ livery and wear less formal attire; you will still receive the same professional service.

John Ashmele, Professional Toastmaster & Master of Ceremonies
A Toastmaster is prepared for most eventualities, so my red vanity case is always close to hand. It contains a spare handkerchief to wipe away a tear, a mending kit to repair a lost stitch, a band-aid and pocket tissues – just in case. Also close to hand are birthday cake candles and mini-sparklers, and a screwdriver set – just in case.
As a Fellow of the Guild of Professional Toastmasters, John has been trained to the highest standards of the Professional Toastmasters’ Academy and is there to put your mind at ease, whilst ensuring EVERYTHING runs according to plan.
