Interview with Stationer, Urzanmyne

Today we are joined by Northampton based stationer Urzanmyne, who works with customers to create their perfect stationery for their wedding day. With 8 years of experience in digital and screen print, Gemma is a creative genius.
TELL US ABOUT YOU AND YOUR BUSINESS?
Urzanmyne create modern, illustrative, sustainable stationery. Originally from a textile design background, I love to work with couples to create a unique stationery design for their special day.
WHY DID YOU START YOUR WEDDING BUSINESS?
I started Urzanmyne back in 2018 as an outlet for my own creativity. I was working in a role where, although externally looked very creative, it was actually quite limited as to how I personally could design and express my thoughts. Some friends of mine were getting married and knew I was ‘arty’ so asked me to create their invitations; I got the wedding bug!

WHY DO YOU LOVE WORKING IN WEDDINGS?
The wedding industry is fantastic, everyone supports each other and who doesn’t love a wedding?! I also love that my designs mean something, my couples have an emotional connection to my drawings and will treasure them; that’s important to me. Working in weddings gives me the freedom to draw things that I enjoy drawing whilst creating something special for my customers.
WHAT KIND OF COUPLE DO YOU LOVE TO WORK WITH?
I love to work with couples who are not afraid to inject their personality into their stationery. Couples who don’t ‘just want an invite’, but that consider all the lovely details that make a wedding truly special. I also like to work with couples who have sustainability in mind when planning their wedding. If allowed to be, the wedding industry can be very wasteful, I believe this will only change if couples are considerate when planning their special day.

WHY SHOULD SOMEONE BOOK YOU FOR THEIR WEDDING DAY?
I design with my couples (not for), incorporating their ideas and personalities by getting to know them. Whether that is by a chat over the phone, a zoom call or, dare I say it, a face to face meeting! I want my couples to feel comfortable, to chat to me, preferably over a cup of tea, about how we can tweak and alter their design to create the perfect suite. Stationery can be a daunting thing on the to do list; I keep things as simple as possible so that my couples can just enjoy the process.
WHAT QUESTION DO YOU GET ASKED ALL THE TIME BY COUPLES AND WHAT’S THE ANSWER TO IT?
Do I really need save the dates?! The answer…No. Some of you may be shocked by that, as it seems to have become the done thing over recent years to send out a save the date wayyyyyyy before your wedding but, I actually I don’t think you need them. If guests will be travelling from abroad, they may appreciate a save the date so they can get the cheapest flights possible. Equally though, you could just send your invitations nice and early instead, so that all of your guests have enough time to book time off work, if needed, and make travel arrangements.
WHAT’S YOUR NUMBER ONE PIECE OF WEDDING PLANNING ADVICE?
Figure out your priorities and book those suppliers first. Spend a good chunk of your budget on what’s most important to you. That way you’ll be sure to love your wedding and to have a blast with your favourite people. Everything else is just icing on the cake.

DO YOU HAVE A DREAM WEDDING VENUE, LOCATION OR WEDDING THEME THAT YOU WOULD LOVE TO WORK AT?
As a lover of all things flowers and foliage my absolute dream venue would have to be Kew Gardens. An iconic, floral extravaganza!
