Choosing a venue is one of the first decisions you will make in your planning journey. With so many options, each offering it’s own unique selling point, it can be hard to decide. To help with your planning process, Vikki Richman from Your Wedding Friend has provided us with a venue review for Brickendon Grange Golf Club, Hertfordshire.

This weeks #VenueView is all about Brickendon Grange Golf Club. Golf clubs are a major contributor to the more unusual venues available on the wedding market; outside of the ones attached to hotels, golf clubs can often be missed or ignored as possible venues for a wedding. 

Brickendon Grange Golf Club is a members-only club in the heart of the Hertfordshire countryside. The course grounds are, as you’d expect, superb; the course itself is award winning. The Grange is a stunning building, as you can see from the pictures. There is ample parking for your guests, and they are bound to be impressed on their way up the drive. You have great access for vehicles of all sizes, as well as for your less mobile guests; whether you want to rock up in a vintage bus or a stretch limo I’m sure you’d be fine. Likewise, most of the areas you’ll use are on the ground floor with nice wide hallways. These may not seem like important details, but you’d be surprised by how many times a beautiful venue is rejected because of these things. 

It has a gorgeous new function room, ie it was created last year and to very high specification, with panoramic views of the course and can accommodate up to 132 people dining. It’s modern and comfortable with styling that works well as a blank canvas. It has a built-in dance floor and bar area, so with little effort you have a gorgeous space in which to celebrate your big day. If 132 guests is way too much for your needs, there’s a smaller room available holding around 30 guests for a private dinner. Of course, larger spaces mean more flexibility but beware that as with most venues if your guest list is significantly lower than the maximum capacity of the space, the venue may be a bit twitchy about letting you hire it, especially in peak season. Many venues set minimum guest numbers for such situations, so it’s always best to ask. 

While searching for a venue you may look through a various websites including the venues own website, you’ve probably realised that some venue websites are distinctly lacking in information. This lovely venue has a great website and some lovely pictures, but it lacks all the most important information required for you discerning couples. You’ll often find that prices are missing (some venues like to keep a flexible pricing structure but that makes it harder for you to know where they fit in your budget), but not including any menus is a bit unfortunate. Having eaten here I think you should be fine. The great thing about golf clubs, especially ones that are members only, is that you know they host lots of events for their members and boards. This should go some way to reassure you that they will have some fabulous great quality food options available. Take it from me, you shouldn’t be disappointed by the menus they will offer you when you get in touch. And you definitely won’t be let down by the bar offer.

While we’re talking about their website, although they have a preferred supplier page it isn’t populated with many suppliers. Don’t let this put you off. The venue has been hosting events and working with various suppliers for many years. I’m not sure why they aren’t listed but rest assured that they’re experienced with various wedding vendors and different types of event. 

For a non-hotel, non-traditional wedding venue this one is fab. Well worth a visit and further enquiry. If you want to know more get in touch.
