As we start the beginning of a brand new year and a new decade, La Belle Cake Company gives us the rundown of the top 5 wedding cake trends of 2020.
Working from her Leighton Buzzard studio, Michelle Shulman’s La Belle Cake Company are a tour-de-force of creative wedding cake, designing bakes both understated and dramatic to create a centrepiece that wedding guests will be remembering long after your “I do’s” have been and gone. Here is what La Belle Cake Company think will be will be popular in 2020.
We are seeing more and more people moving away from the traditional fruit cake. In 2019 we baked less fruit cakes than ever before. At the time of press none of our 2020 couples are having a traditional fruit tier. Couples are pushing the boundaries and being more adventurous with their flavour choices. Couples are opting for delicious and delectable sponge flavours such as lemon and elderflower, & white chocolate and raspberry. The most popular flavour of 2019, salted caramel, continues to be a big hit in 2020.
Naked Wedding Cakes
More and more couples are shunning icing and going naked! For the slightly bashful semi naked cakes, with a sheer layer of icing are just as popular in 2020. These wonderfully rustic wedding cakes can be decorated with icing drips, macaroons and meringue kisses as well as the usual fresh fruit or flowers.
Metallics are still a key wedding trend in 2020 with couples adding a hint of metallic with edible gold and silver leaf. It’s a fabulous way to add a touch of pure luxury to your wedding cake.
As always flowers and weddings go hand in hand. Florals still feature heavily in wedding cake decoration From a stunning cascade of sugar flowers down a white iced cake to fresh flowers on a semi naked cake the possibilities are endless.
Geometric Wedding Cake designs
The popularity of geometric wedding cakes are on the rise. Understated yet striking with bold, precise lines. With this style of design it is all in the details.
