When it came to my own wedding, choosing my wedding flowers was SO difficult. I was completely clueless about which flowers would work best in July and when it came to how much flowers would cost, I had no idea at all.
Today I want to make the process simpler for you, by introducing you to someone who can help answer all of your questions! I met up with Flitwick based Sophie of SA Floristry to find out more about her business and why her wedding flowers have the WOW factor.
So start by telling me a little bit about you and what you do?
I am Sophie, a qualified floral designer based in Bedfordshire. I specialise in weddings and events offering a unique style with no two weddings I supply being the same. I love bringing the outside in using beautiful seasonal flowers and foliage.
Why did you get into the wedding industry?
I fell into floristry on a bit of a whim, and soon entered the workplace in a shop while doing my first year in college. This gave the opportunity to also work on weddings, where I found my true love for floral design. I loved my job, but I was very much in the back ground of the organising and creating. After a few years full time at the shop I decided it was time for me to set up on my own.
I absolutely love being able to follow a couple’s journey in their wedding planning. Seeing the bride’s reaction when I drop off her bouquet is magical and something I will never stop getting nervous about. Getting the opportunity to bring their ideas to life and have an input on the biggest day of their life is such an honour.
What makes your wedding business unique?
My contemporary flair and use of unusual materials allows my designs to stand out. Knowing all the creations I produce for my couples are unique to them and reflect the couples own style and preferences is so important to me.
I offer a truly personal service to all my brides and grooms, always being available for a chat and answer any questions they may have. Being able to offer consultations in the comfort of your own home is amazing. I always find my couples are more comfortable at home and it means they aren’t needing to bring lots of paper work.
What 3 words you would use to describe your business:
· Creative
· Bespoke
· Contemporary
What is your most memorable moment from the weddings you have been at?
I had a beautiful wedding to deliver last year at Hatfield house. The Groom, his friends and family had a huge part in the wedding so I had lots of buttonholes to supply. I remember standing in my van (using it as a step as I am quite short) to a queue of men all ready to have their buttonholes pinned on.
This was such a lovely moment for me to be able to have a quick chat to the groom, his father and the father of the bride before the big moment. It made me feel so involved in their big day and I felt able to calm some last-minute nerves.
What is the best thing you have seen as part of another wedding?
I LOVE weddings being personal, and really like couples having ‘memory tables’ or photos around the venue. It allows their journey to be told from their first date to their wedding day. I personally love flicking through old photos and videos and it is often something I do with my family.
Allowing the family to add their own details of the couple as children can also be a really nice touch.
I have seen couples create special photo albums for their guests to flick through or create bunting to decorate the walls of their venue of specials photos. All the options offer a keep sake for the couple after their big day.
What is your top wedding tip for any couples getting married?
Find suppliers you click with! It is such an important day and often takes well over twelve months for you to organise. Make sure all the people involved in your wedding are those you love and trust to make your ideas come to life.
